Renewable Diesel Used in MAZDA SPIRIT RACING Car during the Round 5 of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series

ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (Headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tomofumi Yoshida, Representative Director, President and CEO; hereinafter "ITOCHU ENEX") announces the delivery of renewable diesel*1 (hereinafter "RD") to Mazda Motor Corporation's MAZDA SPIRIT RACING MAZDA3 Bio Concept (SKYACTIV-D) for the Motegi Super Taikyu 5-Hour Race, which is Round 5 of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series held on September 2-3.

The vehicle Mazda Motor Corporation enters in the race uses 100% next-generation biofuel, and its SKYACTIV-D, the next-generation clean diesel engine, shows sufficient performance.

ITOCHU ENEX ongoingly plans to supply RD to Mazda Motor Corporation's ST-Q class diesel engine cars competing in Round 6 (Okayama) and Round 7 (Fuji) of the series later this year, taking the opportunity of this initiative to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society.

※1 The RD is produced from 100% renewable raw materials such as cooking oil waste and animal fat waste, which do not compete with food products, and achieves approximately 90% reduction in GHG emissions compared to petroleum-derived diesel oil on a life-cycle assessment basis. The RD is a “drop-in” fuel, not requiring any modifications to the existing vehicles, machinery or fuel distribution infrastructures. It has already been widely distributed, mainly in the US and Europe. As a next-generation biofuel that can minimize the cost related to decarbonization measures and greatly contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions, the expansion of the use of RD is expected in the land transportation and construction fields in the future.
