TAKATA Pharmaceutical Begins Using ITOCHU ENEX’s Carbon Neutral Fuel Card Service
- Reducing GHG emissions and contributing to decarbonization -

TAKATA Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minami-ku, Saitama-shi, Saitama; Hiroki Takada, Representative Director and President; hereinafter "TAKATA") announces that it has begun using the Carbon Neutral Fuel Card service (hereinafter "the Service") provided by ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tomofumi Yoshida, Representative Director, President and CEO; hereinafter "ITOCHU ENEX"). The Service allows TAKATA to offset the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from all its company vehicles that use gasoline or diesel oil by carbon credits. TAKATA and ITOCHU ENEX will continuously reduce GHG emissions and contribute to creating a decarbonized society.

■ Outline of the Service
The Service offers carbon credits as part of ITOCHU ENEX’s corporate fuel card service. Companies can use these carbon credits to offset their GHG emissions from their use of gasoline and diesel oil. They can offset the GHG emissions, which are calculated in advance, throughout the entire lifecycle of the petroleum products they utilize, from drilling for crude oil to refining, refueling, and usage in Japan, by utilizing the Carbon Neutral Fuel Card. As a result, the GHG emissions resulting from the use of gasoline and diesel oil by the company vehicles will become zero effectively, allowing companies to reduce their environmental impact.

 ■ Gaining credibility by obtaining PAS 2060 verification
The Service has obtained PAS 2060 verification from BSI Group Japan K.K. (the Japan branch of the British Standards Information, hereinafter "BSI Japan"*1. This is the first instance of a third party verifying the carbon neutrality of a fuel card and fuel under the PAS 2060 standard in Japan*2. PAS 2060 is a set of international specifications that allows companies to demonstrate their achievement of carbon neutrality by quantifying, reducing, and compensating for GHG emissions produced from their products and services. Third-party verification can help them establish the credibility of their carbon neutrality.
The GHG emissions that are a part of economic activity and everyday life are one of the causes of climate change. Therefore, the need to manage GHG emissions is increasing in order to realize a sustainable decarbonized society. The PAS 2060 international standard stipulates requirements regarding the realization and demonstration of the carbon neutrality. Third-party verification increases the reliability of company's statements about the environmental aspects of their business.

■ A future-oriented approach to contribute to creating a sustainable society
TAKATA aims to reduce its Scopes 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 48.8% by FY2030 compared to FY2018 levels to address climate change.

ITOCHU ENEX declares in its Sustainability Policy that it will contribute to creating a carbon-neutral society through its businesses. It aims to help people enjoy fulfilling lives and contribute to the development of a sustainable society, while fulfilling its mission of providing energy and services.

Both companies will be committed to reducing GHG emissions sustainably and contributing to developing a sustainable society by utilizing the Service.
