The Industry's First: Completion of PAS 2060 Achievement Verification of "Carbon Neutral Fuel Card"
ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tomofumi Yoshida, President & CEO; hereinafter "ITOCHU ENEX") announced today that its "Carbon Neutral Fuel Card" service (hereinafter "the Service"), which provides carbon credit offsets to corporate customers for its fuel card service, has completed the PAS 2060 achievement verification ("the Verification") by BSI Group Japan K.K.*1 (British Standards Institution, hereinafter "BSI Japan") on May 2, 2025. This is the first time*2 that PAS 2060 achievement verification has been completed in the fuel card and fuel industry.
Completion of the Verification indicates that the offsetting mechanism and operation of the Service have in fact been proven to achieve carbon neutrality in accordance with international standards.
■ Significance of Completion of PAS 2060 Achievement Verification
The PAS 2060 verification consists of two levels: (1) commitment verification and (2) achievement verification.
A commitment is a promise to achieve carbon neutrality for a covered product in the future. After verification of the commitment by BSI Japan, ITOCHU ENEX launched the Service in February 2024.
An achievement is a proof of actual carbon neutrality of the product in question. The completion of the Verification by BSI Japan proves that the Service has been operated to an internationally trusted standard.
■ About PAS 2060
PAS 2060 (Publicly Available Specification 2060) is a set of international specifications published by BSI Japan. It enables companies to demonstrate their realization of carbon neutrality based on quantifying, reducing and achieving carbon offsets of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions due to products and services through third-party verification.
The GHG emissions that are a part of economic activity and everyday life are one of the causes of climate change. Therefore, the need to manage GHG emissions is increasing in order to realize a sustainable decarbonized society. The PAS 2060 verification, an international standard, stipulates requirements regarding the realization and demonstration of the carbon neutrality. Obtaining the verification opinion can increase the credibility of the company in terms of the environment.
Declaring that ITOCHU ENEX will contribute to the realization of a carbon neutral society through its businesses in its Sustainability Policy, it will continue working to contribute to a sustainable society as “The Best Partner for Life and Society.”
