ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Nobuyuki Tabata, Representative Director and President; hereinafter "ITOCHU ENEX") announced today that it delivered bio-blended fuel procured from Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Noriaki Sakai, Representative Director and President) to Nanotsu, a RORO vessel*1 operated by Kinkai Yusen Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Kotaro Seki, Representative Director and President) at the Port of Hakata on June 16, 2026.
This initiative marks the first delivery of bio-blended fuel at the Port of Hakata for a regular domestic RORO vessel.
Biofuels are expected to serve as a means of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the shipping sector because they can be used without modifying existing ship equipment. Their main raw materials are organic resources such as vegetable oils, waste cooking oils, and animal fats. They emit CO2 when burned but can be considered carbon-neutral because the plants as their raw materials absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during their growth. The marine B24 biofuel delivered this time is a 24% biofuel blended with very-low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), an existing fuel. It is expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during operation.
