“GTL Fuel” Officially Adopted as Emergency Generator Engine Fuel for New Yokohama City Hall

Itochu Enex Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kenji Okada, headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereafter Enex) hereby announces that the “GTL fuel” that it handles has been adopted as emergency generator engine fuel for the New Yokohama City Hall (hereafter “New City Hall”) in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The recent adoption of “GTL fuel” by the New City Hall marks the first time in Japan a local public body has formally adopted “GTL fuel” as fuel for onsite power generation.
Yokohama City is actively implementing environmental initiatives such as the development of countermeasures against global warming and has included a “low-carbon city hall giving utmost consideration to the environment” in the basic design concepts of the New City Hall. It is also working hard on BCP measures and has installed an emergency generator (Two of 2,000 kVA) which will enable Yokohama City to maintain essential business functions for seven days even in the event of disaster.
The “GTL fuel” sold by Enex is a clean fuel with limited environmental impact. It has no sulfur content and emits less carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and PM (particulate matter such as soot and dust) than diesel fuel. It can also be stored longer than diesel fuel. The New City Hall decided to adopt GTL fuel because its low environmental impact and stability in long-term storage are consistent with the New City Hall’s design concept.
Based on the corporate philosophy of “the best partner to life a society,” the Enex Group aims to ensure a stable supply of energy and help realize a low-carbon society, reduce environmental impacts and contribute to a sustainable society in its role as an energy company.
