“GTL Fuel” Being Used for the First Time in Tokyo(Japanese original released on May 28,2020)

Itochu Enex Co., Ltd. (CEO: Kenji Okada, headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, hereafter Enex) hereby announces that the beginning of the use of its “GTL fuel” in March 2020 in heavy machinery used in the demolition of the former head office building of the Toda Corporation (President and Representative Director: Masanori Imai, headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereafter Toda).

Toda’s recent adoption of “GTL fuel” marks the first time in the Tokyo metropolitan area that a major construction company has formally adopted “GTL fuel” for use in its onsite heavy machinery (eight machines in total).
Toda has set targets for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through its business activities under the Eco-First Promise1 and the SBT initiative2, and has been contributing to the realization of a carbon-free society by achieving these targets. “GTL fuel” will enable the effective reduction of CO2 emitted when using diesel fuel in construction machines, which are essential for the company’s construction businesses.
Furthermore, “GTL fuel” produces less smoke than diesel fuel, as it is a fuel with limited environmental impact, emitting less nitrogen oxides (NOx) and PM (particulate matter, such as soot and dust. This is propelling the company’s consideration of expanding its use to upcoming tunnel construction sites and other projects.
Based on its corporate philosophy, “the Best Partner for Life and Society,” the Enex Group aims to ensure a stable supply of energy and help realize a low-carbon society, reduce environmental impacts and contribute to a sustainable society in its role as an energy company.

1:The Eco-First Promise is a promise made by companies to take environmental conservation initiatives in line with the Eco-First Program promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, Japan.
2:The SBT (Science Based Targets) initiative is a collaborative, global plan between the CDP, which is an international non-governmental organization engaging in environmental issues such as climate change, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and other organizations, that certifies companies’ CO2 emission reduction targets.
