ITOCHU ENEX Releases Information Concerning the Experimental Mixing of Woody Biomass in Combustion at Power Plant
ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Kenji Okada, Representative Director; hereinafter “the Company”) announced today that Hofu Energy Service Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Hofu-shi, Yamaguchi; Hajime Okubo, President, hereinafter "HES"), a consolidated subsidiary of ITOCHU ENEX, has decided to experiment with mixing woody biomass in coal combustion at a coal-fired power plant operated by HES.
The biomass fuel used for this demonstration experiment is black pellets, which can be used to reduce CO2 emissions when mixed with coal in combustion. In this experiment, HES plans to change the amount of black pellets mixed in stages using the current facilities, observe the operation status and collect data for examination, with the aim of launching full-scale operations to reduce CO2 emissions.
