ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Tomofumi Yoshida, Representative Director, President & CEO; hereinafter "ITOCHU ENEX") announced today that on January 20, 2025, it began operating the first Renewable Diesel*1 (hereinafter “RD”) refueling station in the Kansai region at the Osaka Nanko Station operated by consolidated subsidiary ENEX FLEET CO., LTD. (headquartered in Osaka City, Osaka; Shunji Masuda, President & Representative Director). Through this initiative, we will promote decarbonization in the domestic land transportation sector and contribute to the realization of a circular economy and a decarbonized society.
RD refueling took place for the first time at the Osaka Nanko Station. RD was put in a truck belonging to SENKO Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Kita-ku, Osaka; Kenji Sugimoto, President and Representative Director; hereinafter “Senko”), which carries materials managed by Asahi Kasei Homes Corporation (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Fumitoshi Kawabata, President). The truck was specially wrapped to show that it is running on RD. This will allow the truck to operate in an environmentally friendly manner until March 2026, the month until which it is scheduled to run.
ITOCHU ENEX opened Japan’s first permanent RD refueling station in Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture*2 in November 2021, and has since increased its permanent RD refueling stations in Tokyo and Aichi. With the new refueling station in the Nanko area, the hub of distribution in the Kansai region, it will facilitate refueling in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka areas, making it easier to use RD for trucks for long-distance transportation as well. This will enable many shippers and ground transportation companies to further reduce GHG emissions.
ITOCHU ENEX aims to coexist in harmony with the global environment and society under its Corporate Philosophy of “the best partner for life and society–with Energy, with the Car, and with the Home”. We are continuously taking actions to improve the environment under one of our environmental policies, “Helping to Realize a Low-Carbon Society”. Going forward, ITOCHU ENEX will continue to contribute to better lifestyles and a sustainable society through businesses tailored to the new era that help address social issues.

*1 Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a next generation renewable fuel typically produced from waste, primarily residue oils and fats such as used cooking oil which do not compete with food sources. Based on life cycle assessments, Neste MY Renewable Diesel can achieve up to 90%* reduction in GHG emissions over the fuel’s life cycle as compared to fossil diesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a direct "drop-in" fuel that can be used in existing vehicles and refueling facilities without any modifications to existing infrastructure. The renewable fuel can minimize the introduction cost related to de-carbonization measures and greatly contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions, further utilization of renewable diesel in the transportation industry is expected in the future. ITOCHU ENEX is working with ITOCHU Corporation to promote RD in Japan.
*) The GHG emission reduction percentage varies depending on the region-specific legislation that provides the methodology for the calculations (e.g. EU RED II 2018/2001/EU for Europe and U.S. California LCFS for the U.S.), and the raw material mix used to manufacture the product for each market.
*2 ITOCHU ENEX opened Japan’s first permanent renewable diesel refueling station on November 1, 2021.
